Orientation

Excited to become a Seneca student? Welcome to the #SenecaProud community! Follow these steps to make sure you are prepared for your first day.

Step 1: Activate your Seneca Account

Learn@Seneca is the learning management system for students. You will need to sign in to Learn@Seneca to access your course information, materials, assignments and much more.

Download the Seneca Account Set-Up (PDF) document and follow the steps to set up your account. The information needed to set up your Seneca account will be emailed to you by Seneca’s Registration Department.

Step 2: Setup your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a mandatory requirement for all students to access services. Student must install the Microsoft Authenticator mobile app on their mobile device (cell phone or tablet) and setup their MFA prior to beginning class.

Step 3: Setup your Seneca OneCard (not required for online learners)

Your Seneca OneCard is your official Seneca student ID. Setup your virtual Seneca OneCard to your smartphone.

With the OneCard, you can access a variety of services on campus.

Step 4: Attend your Virtual Orientation

Your Virtual Orientation will take place one week prior to the start of the semester. Details will be sent to you via email.

Step 5: Attend your Class

For in-person learners, you will receive an email with your classroom details prior to the first day of class.

Both in-person and online learners will use Learn@Seneca, also known as Blackboard. This platform provides course websites for your classes. Your instructors will post important announcements and communications on Blackboard and this also where you will submit your assignments. You can access Blackboard through Student MySeneca by selecting Learn@Seneca . It is important that you confirm that you are able to access your courses on Blackboard on the first day of classes. Watch the video tutorial playlist for an overview of Blackboard.

For students with in-person classes the Seneca Navigate App can help you can find classrooms, study spaces, food services and washrooms easily thanks to detailed maps of Newnham, King and Seneca@York campuses.

Step 6: Accommodated Students: Schedule an Appointment with Seneca’s Accessible Learning Services

If you have an Individual Education Plan (IEP)/psychoeducational assessment or require any academic or physical accommodations, you are required to register with Seneca’s  Accessible Learning Services (ALS).

Accommodations do not automatically transfer over from high school.

To register with ALS:

  1. Complete the ALS registration form to make an appointment with an ALS counsellor. Appointments should be made at the beginning of the semester to avoid delays.

  2. You will be required to upload your digital IEP/psychoeducational assessment. If you do not have a digital IEP/psychoeducational assessment, you must request it from your high school.

  3. After you submit the form, you will receive an automated email confirming your registration that includes the date, time, and location (on-campus or virtual) of your appointment. All communication from ALS will be directed to your @myseneca.ca email address.

  4. Based on your IEP/psychoeducational assessment, if you are eligible, you will receive an academic accommodation letter.

  5. Each semester you must send your accommodation letter to your professor. For steps on how to do this visit: When and how should I distribute/send out my accommodation letter?

If you have any questions about the accommodation process, please email senecacnas@senecapolytechnic.ca
