Seneca Polytechnic’s commitment to work-integrated learning was on display at North York General (NYG) this week. Ontario’s Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security, Nolan Quinn, alongside MPP Mohamed Firin and MPP Michelle Cooper toured the facility where nursing students are gaining practical, hands-on experience through clinical placements at the hospital.

A stop on NYG’s 3 North unit gave officials an opportunity to observe Seneca Nanji Foundation School of Nursing students, alongside experienced health-care professionals, providing patient care. The tour also included a visit to a simulation lab, where students participated in demonstrations using advanced training equipment. These immersive learning opportunities help prepare future nurses for the realities of clinical practice.

The tour was led by Rudy Dahdal, NYG’s Executive Vice President, Clinical Programs and Chief Planning & Redevelopment Officer, and Dr. Richard Bowry, NYG’s Vice President, Medical Affairs, Research and Education, alongside Seneca President David Agnew and Maria May, Dean of the Seneca Nanji Foundation School of Nursing, with additional representatives from both organizations joining the visit.

The visit also highlighted the growing partnership between Seneca and NYG. Earlier this year, the organizations signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening Ontario’s health-care talent pipeline through expanded work-integrated learning opportunities, enhanced recruitment pathways and innovative clinical education experiences for students in nursing and other health disciplines.

Work-integrated learning is a cornerstone of the Seneca experience, connecting students with opportunities to apply their skills in professional settings before graduation. Through partnerships with top organizations such as NYG, Seneca helps students build career-ready skills while supporting Ontario’s evolving health-care workforce.
