About the Course

Due to the nature of the commercial diving industry, divers work in harsh and – at times –  isolated environments. This 10-day, intensive course provides you with training in advanced first aid and basic paramedical techniques that will enable you to provide medical assistance in remote locations until emergency personnel arrives. The curriculum involves theoretical and practical training in diving physiology and the medical techniques used to treat diving emergencies involving trauma, as well as medical disorders resulting from the direct and indirect effects of pressure.


Subjects covered in this course include:

  • systems of the body
  • monitoring vital signs
  • airway management
  • shock management
  • respiratory and cardiac arrest
  • trauma management
  • causes, effects, symptoms and management of diving injuries
  • proper use and storage of medical equipment
  • care and treatment of a patient in a hyperbaric environment
  • oxygen administration
  • medical record keeping
  • liaison with medical services

Your Career

Upon successful completion of this course, you will possess the skills required by diver medics working in the national and international commercial diving industry.
