David Dixon joined Seneca in 2012 as a professor. He is also the president and designer of David Dixon Inc. He started his company in 1995, a year after graduating from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson University) with a bachelor degree in fashion arts. The award-winning designer focused on what he felt was a gap in the Canadian fashion industry – women’s contemporary evening wear or event dressing. His collections combine luxury with function. All of Mr. Dixon’s designs are manufactured in Canada, utilizing the best imported fabrics. Mr. Dixon is also an advocate, using fashion as a conduit for conversation and encouraging diversity and inclusion. “Fashion is a language,” he said. “Fashion goes beyond fabric; it is the attempt to manifest art on a breathing canvas.”
