Strategic Leadership

Overview

The Strategic Leadership executive certificate program is designed to enhance your leadership skills through self-reflection, self-assessment, practical application, and the study of leadership best practices. It will equip you with a clear sense of your strengths. You will learn how to lead an effective team, harness your executive presence to make a greater impact and facilitate organizational culture and change.

This program is for current or aspiring leaders across all industries who want to gain greater self-awareness, improve their leadership skills and enhance their leadership effectiveness through concrete and actionable steps.

Program Delivery

This executive certificate will be offered through online delivery and available on a part-time basis, allowing you to work full time while studying.

Courses

This executive certificate consists of four courses which run on Wednesday evenings. Courses can be taken individually.

Meet your professors

Dr. Melissa Warner

Dr. Melissa Warner

Dr. Melissa Warner, Professor, School of Human Resources & Global Business, and an International Coaching Federation certified coach, has 21 years of teaching and facilitating experience in both corporate and academic environments. As an academic, she has taught more than 70 courses at various postsecondaries such as the University of Toronto, Waterloo University, Wilfred Laurier University and University of Guelph. She has taught courses on organizational behaviour, training and development, research methods and performance management. As a consultant, she has designed more than 50 leadership and management courses and facilitated programs in sectors ranging from government to retail. Prior to joining Seneca, Dr. Warner held a full-time role as a facilitator within Canadian Tire Corporation, where she was accountable for leadership assessment, coaching and facilitation. She holds a PhD in industrial/organizational psychology from the University of Guelph, and a certificate in neuroscience from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Warner is an active member of the Canadian and American psychological associations and has contributed to research at international conferences.


Dr. Deborah Miller

Dr. Deborah Miller

Dr. Deborah Miller, Professor, School of Human Resources & Global Business, brings deep expertise in teaching along with vast cross-industry consulting and specialized corporate experience in world-class leadership development solutions that build performance excellence. Dr. Miller has also taught and facilitated courses in business and psychology at the universities of Calgary and Guelph. Prior to joining Seneca Polytechnic, Dr. Miller held senior positions in human resources at large organizations such as Canadian Tire Corporation Ltd. and Rogers Telecommunications Inc. She has consulted across energy, financial and government sectors and worked with military, non-profits and nuclear organizations among others. Dr. Miller spent a further year dedicated to working at an assessment centre focused on the development of executive-level leaders. She earned a master’s in science and a PhD in industrial-organizational psychology from the universities of Calgary and Guelph, respectively. She also holds an Associate Certified Coach designation through the International Coaching Federation. Dr. Miller is a member of the American and Canadian societies for industrial and organizational psychology and an active reviewer for their annual research conferences.


Nancy Rodrigues

Nancy Rodrigues

Nancy Rodrigues has been teaching at Seneca Polytechnic for 15 years. She teaches courses in the School of Human Resources & Global Business and specializes in training and development and organizational behaviour.  In addition, she was the co-ordinator for the Business diploma program for five years and has a strong background in developing training to be delivered abroad. Ms. Rodrigues has also travelled to Mozambique and Egypt to deliver leadership-driven curriculum. Outside of work, she is the Vice Chair of her local library board. Ms. Rodrigues has an MBA from the University of Fredericton, specializing in human resources and a master’s in education from Brock University.
