Dry Cleaners Enviro Certification

Subject Description
This course provides required training and certification for owners of dry cleaning establishments in the Province of Ontario, in compliance with the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change Regulation 323/94, the Dry Cleaners Regulation under the Environmental Protection Act (1994), which states that dry cleaning establishments must have at least one employee on staff certified through this course.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  • Meet the requirements of Ontario Regulation 323/94 by operating dry cleaning equipment in ways to manage contaminants and wastes related to dry cleaning operations and to minimize their discharge into the natural environment
  • Implement procedures that meet the requirements of other federal, provincial and municipal regulations pertaining to the environment
  • Monitor and identify opportunities to improve the efficiency of water, energy and solvent use in the operations of your establishment
  • Explore alternative techniques for improved environmental performance
  • Implement good environmental management practices

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.

Prerequisite(s)
This subject is open to all dry cleaner owners and operators in the province of Ontario.

Mode of Instruction
Classroom
Primarily lectures, small group discussions, individual and group exercises. Student will write the certification exam at the end of the training session.

Modes of Evaluation
To successfully complete the certification course, students are required to pass a 2 hour open book exam. Students in the in-class training complete the exam at the end of the training session. Students in the distance learning option are required to complete the exam at an approved test centre.

Student who achieve 70% or better the exam will receive a grade of SAT.

Students who achieve less than 70% will be given a grade of  UNSAT.
