Business Management

Ontario College Graduate Certificate

Career Opportunities

The employment opportunities for graduates with training in business management are broad and there is ongoing demand for employees with specialized skills who can generate revenue or identify inefficiencies in a business environment. Graduates may become entrepreneurs and apply the skills they have learned from this program to manage a small start-up business.

Entry Requirements

To be accepted into the Business Management graduate certificate program, eligible students are invited to apply by submitting copies online of documents demonstrating one (or both) of the entry requirements outlined below:

  • University or three-year Diploma College graduates

OR

  • Mature students with three to five years of related work experience

AND:

  • English proficiency at the college level

Please note that once accepted into the program, you will be required to bring in the original documents to the Continuing Education office, as they need to be validated by the Academic Program Manager or designated representative of the Business Studies area.

Original transcripts from an accredited Canada institution or the original WES transcript assessment are the only valid credentials accepted for this program.

To validate mature student work experience, original recommendation letter in employer's letter head is required, in addition to any supporting documentation.

Program Outcomes

  • Interpret and record business transactions, and prepare basic financial statements.
  • Integrate knowledge of capital investments, credit planning, and finance into relevant aspects of work.
  • Utilize the concepts and business applications of computer information systems to improve processes in a business environment.
  • Adhere to the concepts of organizational behaviour, and apply decision-making and problem solving techniques in formulating business policy.
  • Apply the concepts of human resource management and organizational behaviour to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Analyze a marketing situation and develop appropriate advertising recommendations and sales promotion strategies.
  • Compare and contrast various pricing strategies and their effects on sales and profits.
  • Prepare and deliver a sales presentation to effectively manage client relationships and to promote products or services.
  • Utilize effective oral and written communications in all aspects of work completed.
  • Apply effective interpersonal skills in the workplace to support the operations of an organization.
  • Articulate various economic principles and their relationship to business.
  • Complete all work according to relevant and accepted business ethics and within the scope of corporate responsibility.

Graduation/Convocation

When you meet all program requirements and become eligible for a certificate, diploma, or degree, you must inform the Registrar by completing a Graduation Application form and paying the graduation and alumni fee. Certificates, diplomas, and applied degrees are issued twice a year in the Fall (October), Spring (June) and Winter (February).
