This course provides students with a knowledge base to approach families and act as a "helping agent" as a social service worker. Various theories and practices related to the family will be explored. An historical perspective on The Canadian Family will be traced. Students will examine trends, changes, and stresses experienced in contemporary Canadian family life. Trends will include: poverty, work force, ethnicity, addictions, abuse and changing gender roles.
