This Certificate of Completion provides educators with an overview to the nuances of working with adult learners. Each interactive 1-day workshop focusses on important aspects of teaching/facilitating adult education. All workshops must be completed satisfactorily to receive the Certificate of Completion.

This module introduces the participant to the characteristics and needs of the adult learner. Various learning styles and profiles are examined as well as the realities of the learner, community and society in today's rapidly changing world. Creating a positive and inviting learning climate is both discussed and experienced.
This module provides participant with the knowledge and skills to design and implement teaching and learning activities. The content builds directly on the principles of adult education and the implications for adult learning activities. The approach of the module is highly experiential.
This module provides participants with the skills and knowledge to develop and assess measurable learning outcomes for use in adult learning environments. The focus is on developing skills to design learning outcomes and to evaluate the effectiveness of outcomes on student performance. Extensive time is allotted for participants to practice these skills during the session.
This module provides participants with the skills and knowledge to test and evaluate student achievement in an adult learning environment. The focus is on developing skills in choosing appropriate testing methods, creating testing instruments and assigning marks with a systematic grading system. Extensive time is allotted for participants to practice these skills during the session.
This module provides participants with facilitation skills and techniques that enhance the learning environment. Participants learn the difference between "facilitation" and "teaching" and, following a series of practical exercises, incorporate the concepts of facilitation in classroom teaching.
This module introduces the participant to the process of facilitating learning in a diverse learning community. This module examines the impact of diversity on the teaching/learning process and on learning experience, exploring innovative approaches to teaching in a diverse classroom. Participants experience and practice behaviours which facilitates and support teaching and learning in a multi-faceted learning environment.

Upon successful completion of the program requirements, please submit a Request for Certificate of Completion Form to the Faculty of Continuing Education and Training. There is no cost for this and your Certificate of Completion will be sent to you electronically.
Upon successful completion of all 6 Excellence in Educating Adults workshops, students may be eligible for an exemption in BEC910 - "Introduction to Adult Education" in the Adult Education/Staff Training certificate.
