International students applying for a PGWP: If you are in a flexible delivery course, you must attend in person as the option to attend online does not apply to you based on IRCC policy. Studying online will impact your PGWP eligibility. Please review the in-person requirements related to PGWP eligibility before choosing your program and course delivery.
Independent Songwriting & Performance (IPS)
About the Program
The Independent Songwriting & Performance program is designed to help talented performers and songwriters develop and refine their skills while laying the foundation for a successful entry into the music industry.
This eight-month program focuses on lyrical and melodic composition, performance and vocal skills, music theory and practice, and studio preparation. You’ll also receive essential technical and business training to help establish your presence in the marketplace.
Learning is hands-on, delivered through a combination of private instruction and traditional classroom lessons, all led by experienced professionals currently working in the music industry.
In your final semester, you’ll receive mentorship to complete and showcase a recording project, which will be evaluated by a panel of faculty members. This final evaluation is designed to support your transition into the music industry with practical feedback and guidance.

What Our Graduates Say

Siobhan Bodrug
Graduate, Independent Songwriting & Performance
"Seneca's IPS program strengthened my skills and confidence as a musician. Coming from a musical family, I had one perspective—but at Seneca, I gained valuable insights from teachers and peers that helped shape my career. The program helped me take vocal health seriously, write with intention, and learn how to book shows and tours. Since graduating, I’ve booked two tours across Canada. The instructors are passionate, collaborative, and truly supportive. I left with mentors, friends, and a deeper understanding of the music industry. I highly recommend IPS to anyone looking to refine their craft and build real connections".
