Health Insurance

As an international student enrolled in a full-time program at Seneca, you have mandatory health insurance (covered by Alumo) included as a charge in your tuition fees. You will be automatically included in the health insurance plan for the current academic year (Tuesday, Sept. 1 2026 to Tuesday, Aug. 31 2027), depending on your program start date.

You are expected to pay any outstanding balance at the start of your term. You can find this information under the Financial Account section in Student Home. You will need to log in with your student username and password to access Student Home.

Seneca hosts information sessions throughout the year to help you understand your coverage.

Your health insurance includes coverage in Ontario for:

• medical services received from a doctor or at a hospital
• paramedical services such as physiotherapist/psychologist
• diagnostic laboratory and X-ray services
• eye examinations
• emergency services and medically necessary dental care in hospital
• hospital ward accommodation
• prescription drugs
• mental health and wellness program

Limited emergency out-of-province and out-of-country coverage is also included in this plan.

Please note: you must be under the age of 65 to be covered under Seneca's health insurance plan.

The health insurance fees and refund policy are only applicable to full-time international students enrolled in professional programs. You may be eligible for an insurance fee adjustment if you are an international student who:

• has a valid Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card
• is eligible for Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP)

To receive the adjustment, you must submit proof of OHIP or IFHP within the first 30 days of the insurance enrolment period. Please complete and submit the  OHIP/IFHP form using your Seneca account by September 30, 2026. Your OHIP or IFHP must remain valid through August 31, 2027. Upon verification, your insurance will be adjusted to the domestic September term rate of  $277.37 and domestic coverage. Please note that the verification and credit process may take time. The adjustment to your student account might not be reflected until a month after the submission deadline.

When visiting a medical facility, you will be asked to either pay for the medical service fee upfront or you will be asked to provide your proof of coverage to bill the insurance carrier directly.

To use your benefits you need to register for the Alumo International Student Portal and download the Alumo Benefits app through Apple or Google Play to access your plan. 
If you pay for any covered medical services upfront or have an outstanding bill paid on your behalf, you must submit a claim in order to be reimbursed.

You can submit a claim for health and dental extended services or a medical claim.
