Academic Upgrading (AUC)

This program is tailored for you if you need extra credits to meet the admission requirements for a certificate, diploma or degree program. After completing this program in one to three semesters, you’ll be well-prepared to apply for a postsecondary program or even start an apprenticeship, opening up new career opportunities.

You have the flexibility to choose between daytime and evening classes, making it easier to fit your studies into your schedule. Additionally, you’ll gain access to valuable career counselling services and receive personalized assistance with your college applications, ensuring you have the support you need to succeed.

Thanks to the generosity of the Peter Gilgan Foundation, you may also be eligible for additional support such as financial awards, transportation subsidies and more.

Upgrading courses are available for the 12U English and 12U math prerequisites required for Seneca Degree programs.

By completing this program, you’ll be prepared to apply for a postsecondary certificate, diploma, degree program or start an apprenticeship. 

To be eligible for the Academic Upgrading program, you should be at least 18 years old or a mature student. We will work with you to determine program suitability and your entry point. Send an email to AUC@senecapolytechnic.ca to begin your application.

This program has a limited number of seats available each term, and enrolment is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications for the May 2026 Term are closed. Applications for the Fall 2026 term beginning in September will open on May 18.

Due to high demand, we recommend applying as early as possible. This also allows enough time for assessments, registration and a mandatory online orientation.

Below is a list of available courses through the Academic Upgrading (AUC) program and their Ontario Secondary School (OSS) equivalent course codes. Your courses are jointly determined with the program co-ordinator during onboarding. Visit frequently asked questions to learn more about the AUC program and how to apply. 

Academic Upgrading course delivery options include In-Person Learning, Flexible and Online Synchronous & Asynchronous. Course delivery modes are determined at the beginning of each semester based on the needs of the cohort. 

• In-Person Learning — programs or courses are fully in-person and you are required to come to campus.
• Flexible — you have a choice of coming to campus for an in-person experience or learning remotely online. Professors teach live on site to students in a classroom or lab and this is broadcasted in real time to students choosing to learn online. 
• Online Synchronous & Asynchronous — includes some scheduled class time and some independent study. Depending on the professor, this scheduled time may be used for drop-in sessions and/or live lectures or assessments. Once enrolled, see the course addendum for details about how your professor will use scheduled class time.
