| AAS700 | Advanced Aircraft Systems | Online | Not offered | Not offered |
| | ASY500 and AAS700 together provide students with a complete technical and operating knowledge of CARS 704 and 705 class aircraft. The two courses combined are similar to courses given by commercial air carriers but they provide a more in-depth study of the technical aspects of these aircraft. Among the many topics covered in AAS700 are: Flight Management Systems (FMS); Flight Navigation Systems (FNS); Auto-pilot and Auto-land Systems. Coverage of the topics of ASY500 and AAS700 will give the student knowledge and insight into how transport category aircraft systems are designed and integrated in order to provide safe aircraft operation for all possible normal and emergency flight situations. The Canadair Regional Jet CRJ200 aircraft is used as an example of CARS704 and 705 aircraft and its systems are studied in detail using the latest advanced multimedia software. This software allows for interactive student participation and real time displays of systems operation. |
| ACP700 | Air Carrier Procedure | Online | Not offered | Not offered |
| | This course focuses on the essential knowledge and skills a commercial pilot requires to function effectively in a multi-flight crew commercial operation. It includes an in-depth study of Canadian Air Regulations (CARS) sections 604, 703 and 704 which govern corporate, air taxi and commuter flight operations. Students learn about aircraft operations in extreme conditions: aircraft icing on the ground and in the air; severe cold and other winter conditions; remote operations. Also studied is the importance of documents and procedures for commercial air carriers such as: company operations manuals; minimum equipment lists; approved company check pilot programs; etc. Professional conduct, duties and responsibilities of commercial pilots, and corporate culture are included in the course in order to prepare students for employment in the industry. Topics such as multi-crew standard operating procedures (SOP), pilot duties, crew resource management, etc., will be applied by the students in Line Oriented Flight Training (LOFT), which is done in FLY700 and FLY800. |
| ASC600 | Aircraft Stability and Control | Hybrid | Not offered | Not offered |
| | In this course, students learn about those aspects of aircraft static and dynamic stability that can be investigated when the aircraft is assumed to behave like a rigid body. Topics on static stability covered include: factors determining the longitudinal static stability of aircraft; longitudinal control of aircraft; expressions for the stick forces required for longitudinal control; the effects of fuselages, propulsion systems, etc. on longitudinal static stability; lateral static stability and control, directional static stability and control. The following aspects of dynamic stability are studied: longitudinal and lateral - directional modes of transient aircraft motion; the stability of the longitudinal and lateral-directional modes; aircraft handling qualities and the stability criteria required for satisfactory longitudinal and lateral-directional flying qualities. |
| BAB700 | Management Principles and Practices | Online | Not offered | Not offered |
| | This course introduces current management theory and practice. The various management functions are analyzed in the context of the organizational environment. Practical application of the theory is experienced through participation in project teams. | CPA600 | Computer Programming Aerospace | Online | Not offered | Not offered |
| | CPA600 is, in part, an introductory course in Visual programming for Windows. The student learns to develop graphical user interface applications using Visual programming software. Emphasis is placed on using software to write programmes to solve aviation related problems. In this course, the student is also introduced to the Collins 4200 Flight Management System (FMS). It is studied in order to prepare the student for its use in the Jet Transition Program and Phase 9 Line Oriented Flight Training. Students learn the necessary programming skills for advanced Flight Control Computer systems and they learn how they are integrated with the FMS and the Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS) for all phases of commercial flight operations. Students also will obtain proficiency in Area Navigation (RNAV) and Managed Vertical Navigation (VNAV) by using all available flight deck automation tools, including error detection and correction methods. |
| SMS600 | Safety Management System | Hybrid | Not offered | Not offered |
| | Students learn the concept of quality assurance (QA) and the statistical process used to control a safety management system. Students learn about the tools used in the role of safety officer in an aviation organization. Students build on their knowledge from HUM500 and present safety in an organizational context. Students will have the opportunity to do practical exercises to reinforce concepts presented in class. |
