Frequently Asked Questions

A “university transfer” program such as the Liberal Arts University Transfer (LAT) program allows you to complete a diploma and then apply to a university with significant transfer credits. This can enable you to earn both a two-year LAT diploma and a four-year university undergraduate degree in as few as four years.

LAT offers small classes and dedicated mentoring from professors and co-ordinators, preparing you for success at the university level. Data shows that LAT transfer students perform as well as or better than those who start their postsecondary education in a university.

“Transfer credits” refers to course credits granted by one program or institution for courses taken in another program or at another institution. Through our agreements with select university partners, more than half of your LAT courses at Seneca can count as university credits if you qualify.

Please refer to the LAT program courses outline for information on the program’s curriculum and how the courses will be delivered each term. Additional information on how to build a schedule will be shared with you once you are accepted into the program.

A GPA of 3.0 in the LAT program qualifies you for the transfer pathway. You can start taking university courses after completing your second semester.

You will receive guidance and support throughout your transition from Seneca to university, including early advising and application assistance from both your Seneca program co-ordinator and university advisors.

There are hundreds of programs available through our university partners, offering direct pathways from LAT. Your program co-ordinator will help you review your options and find the right program.

Yes, many LAT graduates transfer to programs at other universities in Canada and the U.S. that don’t yet have formal pathways agreements with Seneca. You would apply as a transfer student, with advising assistance from the Academic Pathways team and your LAT program co-ordinator.

To prepare you with the knowledge and skills to succeed at the university level, you will take a variety of courses in the arts, humanities and social sciences.

The LAT program is available at both Newnham and Seneca@York campuses.

Yes, you can delay your transfer to university. Discuss this option with your program co-ordinator.

You can apply for one of two program intakes: January or September. Students starting in September could take university courses by the following summer, while students who start in January could finish the LAT diploma in as few as 18 months and transfer to university shortly afterwards.

The online section of the LAT program is delivered synchronously, allowing you to engage in real-time with your instructors and classmates. You will be required to participate in live classes and discussions at specific times, making your learning experience interactive and dynamic.

You can complete the initial two years of the LAT program at Seneca online. This flexible option provides a great start to your degree. Once you transition to one of our university partners or a Seneca degree program, you may need to attend in-person classes, depending on policies and program requirements. This transition offers a wonderful chance to experience different learning environments and broaden your academic journey.
